Relationships - It's not the structure of the whanau that's important; it's the quality of the parent/ child relationship. When you clearly love your tamariki, listen to them, have fun with them and set clear boundaries, you can help steer them away from harmful drug and alcohol use.
Connectedness - It is important to help rangatahi remain connected to their whānau, their iwi, their school, and their community; in particular through the years when they change schools. Help them to give some time to serving their community in some way.
Culture - this is a protective factor for tamariki.
