WellTrust counsellors work to encourage youth/rangatahi to make better decisions by supporting and educating them around the negative impacts and possible effects of their alcohol and drug use.
We help to minimise any harms that may come about by the use or overuse of alcohol and other drugs and we help to maximize health.
You can come here to our premises at 14 Laings Road, Lower Hutt; or our counsellors go to 26 secondary schools and activity centres around the greater Wellington region, and work with youth at their school. Talk to the school guidance counsellor about this.
It is a totally confidential service, and the client is in control of who else might be involved.
We carry out a full assessment of the client's use and needs as we work with them.
We also provide a full comprehensive assessment, with written report, for the Youth Courts and Child Youth & Family Service.
If you would like a comprehensive assessment, with written report, please complete the referral form and email it to us. We will then liaise with you and/or the client to set a time for the initial interview.
For some clients, where it is deemed appropriate and suitable, we complete the assessment necessary to get him/her into a residential treatment facility. This may be as short as an 8 week programme at Te Waireka, or a 6 month programme at Odyssey House.
We are the agency that does this; you cannot apply directly to them. We complete the assessment and prepare the information the residential treatment facility requires, and we liaise with them throughout.
We have an entertaining and informative speaker who will address polytech classes, community groups and parent groups, usually at their school, about alcohol and other drugs and how their use in adolescence can be a problem for teenagers.
Where funding can be obtained, we may also deliver some preventative education or early intervention education to small groups of youth at their school or training institution.
Please phone to enquire about this.
